Velu in Claude
Connect Velu to Claude, edit your docs in a conversation, and review and publish the changes in a panel inside the chat.
The Velu connector lets Claude work on your documentation site for you. Ask for a change in plain words, such as "add a section on API key rotation" or "rename Create key to New API key everywhere", and Claude reads your pages, edits them in a private draft, and shows you every change in a review panel inside the conversation. Nothing reaches your live site until you publish it.
Before you start
- A Velu account with access to the docs editor, and a published Velu site.
- A Claude plan that supports connectors.
- To publish from Claude, your account must be allowed to publish the site.
Connect Velu
In Claude, open Settings › Connectors. Find Velu in the directory and select Connect.
If Velu isn't listed for you yet, select Add custom connector and use this URL:
https://mcp.veludocs.com/mcp
Claude opens a Velu sign-in page. Sign in with the account you use for the dashboard.
Velu shows what Claude is asking for. Approve to finish connecting. You can see each permission in What Claude can do.
Claude works on the one documentation site that belongs to your Velu account.
Ask for a change
Describe the change in a conversation. A few examples:
"Add a short section to the API keys page on rotating a key every 90 days."
"Shorten the quickstart steps without losing any of them."
"We renamed Create key to New API key. Update every page that mentions it."
"Move the troubleshooting page under Get started and fix the navigation."
Claude reads Velu's writing and configuration guide before it edits, so new pages use your site's components and frontmatter the way the rest of your docs do.
Review and publish the changes
Every edit goes into a draft: a private copy of your site's content. Your live site and the web editor's published content don't change while Claude works.
When Claude finishes, a Velu card appears in the conversation with the number of changed files. Select Review changes to open the full panel.
The panel lists the changed files. Select one to see the live page and the draft side by side, with additions and removals marked. Images are shown before and after.
Select a block in the draft, then Edit, change the text and save. Each edit saves a new revision of the draft. You can also select Open in Velu to continue in the web editor.
Select Publish reviewed version, then confirm. Velu publishes exactly the revision you reviewed and rebuilds your site, which takes a few minutes. If the draft changed after you opened it, Velu asks you to load the latest version and review again.
Publishing happens only from the Publish button in the panel, after you confirm. Claude can edit and save drafts, but it doesn't publish them.
Sites connected to GitHub
If your docs live in a GitHub repository, saving the draft opens a pull request in that repository instead of publishing. The panel shows Open pull request in place of Publish. Review and merge the pull request on GitHub, and your site rebuilds as it does for any other merge.
What Claude can do
When you connect, you approve three permissions:
| Permission | What it allows |
|---|---|
| Read your documentation | Read pages, settings and navigation, search drafts, compare a draft with the live site. |
| Edit documentation drafts | Create and edit drafts: write, edit, move and delete files, and change settings and navigation in a draft. |
| Save drafts and open pull requests | Save a draft for review. On a GitHub-connected site this opens or updates a pull request. Publishing from the review panel also needs this permission. |
Tools that only read are marked read-only. Tools that overwrite, move or delete draft content, and publishing, are marked as making changes, so Claude can ask you before it uses them.
Disconnect
In Claude, open Settings › Connectors, select Velu, and choose Disconnect. Claude can no longer reach your documentation. Drafts it made stay in Velu until you publish or discard them, and your published site isn't affected.
Troubleshooting
Claude says a permission is required
You approved fewer permissions when you connected. Disconnect Velu in Claude, connect again, and approve all three permissions.
The panel says the draft changed while I was editing
Claude saved a newer revision while you had the panel open. Select Load latest and make your edit again.
The panel says there's no open draft
Claude hasn't started a draft in this conversation yet, or the draft was published or discarded. Ask Claude for the change again.
Publish isn't shown
Your site is connected to GitHub, so changes are published by merging the pull request. Select Open pull request in the panel.
Your data
Claude sees the pages it reads to make your change. The full before-and-after content in the review panel goes to the panel only, not to Claude. See the Velu privacy policy for how Velu handles your data.
